Asynchronous Transfer Mode Definition

(ATM) This is a packet-switching system which supports a range of different data types such as computer data, voice, fax, CD-quality audio, and real-time video. The packets of data that are sent using this system are referred to as cells, which contain 48 bytes of data (and 5 bytes of header info). See also Synchronous Transmission.
