Bootstrap Loader Definition

The bootstrap loader is a small program that runs before any other normal program can run. It is stored on non-volatile storage (normally the computer's ROM) so that it can still be used after the computer has been switched off and then on again. It gives instructions as to where the operating system on a microcomputer is to be found.
