Bus Definition

A set of conductors which connect the functional units in a computer. Local buses connect elements within the CPU and other buses connect the computer to external memory and peripherals. The bus width determines the speed of data transmission with most personal computers using 32-bit busses both internally and externally. Internal buses are configured in parallel but there are also serial buses between computers in networks.
